You’ve always preferred bar soaps or solid soaps to liquid versions. You’ve tried both, and you keep coming back to bar soaps. However, yours don’t last that very long. That’s not a problem, though. Here are seven tips that you can try if you want to start seeing those bar soaps last more than a few weeks, especially if you love the scent and want to make sure it lasts much, much longer.
Keep It High and Dry
Is the soap under the direct shower stream? That could be why your soaps don’t last for a good long while. That’s because the water might always drip on the bar, causing it to melt. You’ll want to put it somewhere high and dry. Keep it away from the shower stream to improve its chances of lasting. Air circulation is also a factor. Is there enough ventilation in your bathroom? If it’s humid and moist, that could mean that your soaps never dry. If that’s the case, it’s not surprising why your soaps don’t last. To change that, improve ventilation and store your soap in a spot where the air will help dry it out.
Choose a Harder Soap
If you want soaps that last, pick harder ones. A harder, denser soap is less likely to break down much too soon. That means they will last you much longer. Denser soaps don’t have much air inside, so that gives you more soap that you can use. Not all soaps are like this, though, so be careful when you shop. It wouldn’t hurt to check out the reviews and find out which soaps are denser and lighter, so you can make smart buying decisions.
Change Your Soap Dish
Does your soap dish drain the water? You’ll want to check. If that isn’t the case and your bathroom soap dish holds water instead of draining it, that’s another reason why you keep using a new soap out of your supplies every few weeks. Start shopping for a new dish. Be sure to go over the design, so you won’t make the same mistake: that is, getting a soap dish that traps the water in.
Use a Mesh Sponge
You can also save on soap when you use a washcloth. A mesh sponge or shower sponge also works. Rub the soap against the washcloth, and then rub the washcloth all over. It does tend to take a bit more effort but if you want to see your soaps last longer, try it out. This method is also suitable for kids, though. Using a soft washcloth on them during bath times is one way to make sure you get off all the grime and dirt, especially if your little ones love spending time outdoors. If they come home with grubby hands and knees, that washcloth will help you gently wipe all the dirt away from your tiny adventurers.
Use a Soap Saver
There are also soap savers, which have a series of raised pegs. They keep your soap bars from coming in contact with water. They also help dry them faster.
