Four Mile Historic Park is a tranquil 12-acre historic oasis. It offers Denver’s oldest standing structure, pioneer exhibits, special events and guided tours that transport you back to Colorado’s frontier past.
The earliest surviving structure in the city, Four Mile House was constructed in 1859 as part of the Cherokee Trail and Wells Fargo Butterfield Stage route to El Paso. It served as a wayside inn and stage stop for travelers.
Travelers stopped at Four Mile House to get off the trail, wash off dust, drink cool water, and have a bite to eat. During its time as a stage stop, it was frequented by travelers from all over the country.
Today the historic house is the centerpiece of a living history museum. Visitors can explore the home’s original square log, circa 1860s wood frame, and 1883 brick portions. Guided tours are available and include an explanation of the house’s significance.
