The environment is an obligation which everyone must feel responsible for. Many of us are conscious of eco-friendly processes like recycling, which can reduce the amount of garbage we generate and decrease the carbon footprint. However, a large number of people aren’t aware of the new and forthcoming technologies that can help lessen carbon emission. An excellent example is LED Lighting that has many advantages for the environment.
LED lighting is up to 80 percent more efficient than conventional lighting like fluorescent or incandescent light bulbs. 95% of energy produced by LEDs can be converted into light, while only 5% of it is wasted as heat. Compare this to fluorescent bulbs that transform 95% of the energy into heat, and only 5% of it is converted into light! LED lights use less energy than traditional lighting. A typical 84 watt fluorescent could be replaced with an LED of 36 watts to provide the same amount of lighting. The less energy used reduces the energy consumption of power plants and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
No Toxic Elements
LED lighting is free of toxic elements. The majority of offices use fluorescent strip lights that contain harmful chemicals like mercury. These can be harmful to the environment when it is disposed of in landfills. The disposal process must be managed with a registered waste transporter therefore switching to LED eliminates the costs and time that are required for safe disposal and protects the environment from further harmful waste.
Less Lights Needed
LEDs offer a higher quality of light distribution, and they focus light on one side in comparison to other forms of lighting, which consume energy by radiating light across all directions which is often used to illuminate areas that don’t require light (such for in the ceiling). This means that fewer LED lighting is required to produce the same amount of brightness that is offered by incandescent and fluorescent lights. The fewer lights used will decrease energy use and help the environment.
The life span
A longer life span means lower carbon emissions. LED lights last for about 6 times more than the other kinds of lights, thus reducing the need of frequent maintenance. This leads to the use of less lights, which means less energy is required to manufacture procedures, packaging materials and transportation.
