Tufts University
Tufts University is a private research institution with several campuses in Boston. It was founded in 1852 and is renowned for its rigorous and innovative research programs.
Tufts is a medium-sized, comprehensive college that has been consistently ranked among the top universities in the United States. It is organized into ten schools and offers both undergraduate and graduate education. Tufts is very close to the Theatre district and nightlife, and of course students can also venture over to concerts at The Sinclair Cambridge.
In addition to its School of Arts and Sciences, which provides a liberal arts curriculum, Tufts also offers graduate degrees in eight other schools. These include the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, which is the oldest school of international affairs in the U.S.; the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, which is the country’s oldest school of veterinary medicine; and the School of Engineering.
At Tufts, students are encouraged to expand their global outlook through study abroad. Approximately half of all Tufts undergraduates take courses outside the U.S. In addition, Tufts offers many international programs that provide opportunities to study in countries such as Ghana, China, and the UK.
University of Massachusetts
The University of Massachusetts is a public research institution that offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. It also offers certificate programs and a variety of continuing education options.
Its academic program offerings range from medical sciences and law to liberal arts and education. It has also gained a reputation for its strong commitment to social justice and the environment.
Students are able to choose from a number of residential options including high-rise towers, traditional residence halls, and suites. Each is equipped with its own classrooms, social and recreational centers, kitchenettes, television rooms, and dining facilities. Students can get away to the nightlife at The seaport and check out The Grand Boston.
The University of Massachusetts is a publicly funded institution with a lay board of trustees. The board establishes general policies governing the university. However, it does not have the power to oversee the day-to-day operations of the university. The board is primarily a legislative body and deals with policy questions rather than administrative or management matters. Its members include two voting students and three ex officio non-voting members.
Boston University
One of America’s leading research universities, Boston University offers students a unique opportunity to learn in a city that is at the forefront of scientific advancement. Its faculty are experts in cutting-edge disciplines, such as engineering biology; infectious diseases; neuroscience; photonics; urban policy; and education.
The school’s academic programs are based on individual interests and offer an extensive selection of majors and minors. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is home to a number of interdisciplinary degrees in medicine, law, education, business, technology, engineering, communications, and more.
BU is one of the most selective colleges in the nation, so it’s important to submit a top-notch application. SAT and ACT scores are important, but the school also looks for evidence of demonstrated interest in the college.
Northeastern University
Northeastern University is a private university with a campus in Boston and a few smaller campuses in other locations. It was founded in 1898 as the Evening Institute for Young Men, a school that offered nighttime classes through the local YMCA.
The academic programs at Northeastern are rooted in experiential learning, which means that students learn by doing rather than just reading. This has helped the college to earn a reputation for its renowned cooperative education program, student research and service learning.
It also offers an extensive global presence with opportunities in 148 countries. Moreover, the school has a strong emphasis on research and received $160.3 million in external funding during the 2017-2018 academic year.
The campus is spread out across 73 acres in the heart of Boston. Its own subway stop, known as the T, makes it convenient for students to explore the rest of the city.
