Baltimore is known for its rich history in baseball. The Orioles have a long tradition of winning pennants and playoff series, making them a favorite among baseball fans in the area.
They won the World Series in 1983, but they fell into a downward spiral after that. In 1986, they finished last in the AL East. This was the first time that they had a losing record since moving to Baltimore.
The Orioles’ history
The Baltimore Orioles have an extensive baseball history. They are a Major League Baseball team based in Baltimore, Maryland and play in the Eastern Division of the American League.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the team changed its cap logo slightly to a more modernized version of the cartoon bird. This new look would be used on the O’s alternate cap until 1998, when it was updated to a more realistic depiction of the state bird, the blackbird.
During the 2009 season, the team made a change to their road uniforms that was well received by fans. The word “Baltimore” was returned to the front of the road jersey for the first time in almost 40 years, and the orange script was rounded off to create a softer look than previous versions.
The Orioles’ manager
Epstein has long held the philosophy that it takes 10 years to build a team into a championship contender. This belief, along with his data-driven approach to player evaluation and the ability to fill in gaps has made him one of baseball’s most sought after general managers.
After graduating from Yale in 1995 with a degree in American Studies, Epstein interned for three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and then moved to San Diego to work under Larry Lucchino as director of player development. There he gained his first experience as a baseball general manager.
In 2002, the Boston Red Sox hired him as their general manager, making him the youngest GM in MLB history. He helped lead the team to their first World Series championship in 86 years, and then to another.
He stayed with the Boston Red Sox until 2007, before he was snatched up by the Chicago Cubs as executive vice president and general manager. He carved out a Hall of Fame career by building two teams into champions after decades without winning.
The Orioles’ players
The Orioles’ players are known for their ability to play hard and for their skill at the plate. They also possess great defense, which is an essential component to their success.
The team’s roster is a reflection of the Orioles’ past, but they have recently begun a rebuilding process. The team sent Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop to the Dodgers and Brewers, respectively, in the offseason.
With these trades, the Orioles were able to acquire prospects that will work towards the club’s rebuild. Yusniel Diaz, for example, is only 21 years old and has already shown impressive production in the minor leagues.
The Orioles have several affiliate teams, including the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, the Double-A Bowie Baysox and the High-A Frederick Keys. Delmarva Shorebirds, the Orioles’ Low-A affiliate, has been a launch pad for many future Orioles stars. The team has won two South Atlantic League titles as a Birds affiliate. The team has been affiliated with the Orioles since 1997.
